Koishiwara-ware is said to have originated in 1682, when the third lord of the Chikuzen Fukuoka Domain began producing pottery, inspired by Imari—then a flourishing center of porcelain production.
One of its defining characteristics lies in the distinctive patterns created through traditional techniques such as tobikanna (chattering), in which rhythmic marks are cut into the surface while the vessel spins on the wheel, and hakeme (brush marks), applied in regular strokes with a brush.
For this special KIRI commission, we requested a small guinomi from Shuzan Kiln, known within Koishiwara-ware for developing its own unique glaze to achieve a richly layered, oil-spot.
The result is a compact guinomi that brings together the quiet presence of Koishiwara tradition with Shuzan’s signature color.

1682年に筑前福岡藩・3代目藩主が、磁器の生産が盛んだった伊万里にならい、焼物を作り始めたのが起源とされる小石原焼。小石原焼の大きな特徴は、器をろくろで回しながら刃先やハケなどを使い規則的に入れる「飛び鉋」や「刷毛目」という技法から生まれる模様が特徴とされています。
KIRIが今回特注でお願いしたぐい呑は、小石原焼の中でも独自の釉薬を用いて油滴を表現する秀山窯に製作を依頼し実現した小ぶりなguinomiです。
